day 156

Merry Christmas!
One of Leah's Christmas gifts was the book "The Snowy Day." What a perfect day to read it - 15+ inches of snow so far made for a white Christmas!! It did put a wrench in our plans for traveling to Brookings for Christmas with Grandma Janet and Grandpa Dale, and Aunt Carrie and Uncle Tony and Grant and Conner. Interstates closed (and still are!), so we aren't sure when we will be able to go now...Leah's first Christmas is definitely one to remember!
Miss Leah, watching the snow fall...

day 155

Leah's first Christmas Eve at Grandma Jeanie's house. The day started off great, however went all downhill when we had to wake her up from her afternoon nap to go to church.
This picture pretty much sums up how the entire evening went! I've said before when she was just weeks old that she really perfers to be home - she was cranky and crabby all night long - wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep - ugh!! Her routine was all out of sorts, and she did not handle it well!
She did cooperate for a short time so she could open her presents. Leah got lots of great gifts from everyone - many new, fun toys that she can learn and play with, some new clothes and shoes, and some new books. Thanks, everyone, for the great presents!!

day 154

Her shirt says "Present Snatcher!" She's getting SO very close to sitting all by herself!

Traditions

I've always loved traditions, especially around the holidays. My family has many of them. With the addition of Leah to our little family, I thought it would be nice to come up with some of our own. (Of course I've borrowed these ideas from others, but I wouldn't be using them if I didn't think they weren't special!)

One tradition that crossed my path involved Christmas books. Each year at Christmas time, Leah will get a new Christmas book. We will pack it away with all of our Christmas stuff when the holiday is over, so she only has limited access to that book during the Christmas season. In each book I will put a little "name plate" and note to her. We will get them back out the next year and enjoy them for the season. My hope is that when she is ready to leave home she will have 18 books to take with her as a rememberance of this special time of year!

Another idea that Aunt Carrie told me about was to keep a journal of special times and memories, funny things Leah does or says - just little entries of the times I don't want to forget. This will be another keepsake she gets to take with her when she leaves home. I love the idea and plan to make every effort to make sure I do it!

day 141

Right after a bath and food and a bottle...a full tummy = happy baby!

day 140

This picture was taken right before she went to sleep. Look at those tired eyes! She still loves to be swaddled when she goes to bed - no more cuddling and rocking though! Which I shouldn't complain about - it's great that she can go to sleep on her own, but that just means that she is already growing up so fast!

day 138

The only Christmas decoration we've gotten up so far is our tree...and it's not very fancy at all! Lindy thinks it's a sad, "Charlie Brown" tree....it is pretty dinky, but we have a tiny house! Needless to say, it is filled with Hallmark and Barbie ornaments. Leah loves them already!
Below is my attempt at being a photographer...

day 137

Last week sure was busy! Lindy was out of town a few days for work and Leah and I had plenty to do! Our "little" bug is getting to be such a big girl! She doesn't need us to hold and rock her to sleep anymore, she'll just lay down in her crib when she's tired and go to sleep! So we decided to try to put her on a schedule this past week, and it's going really well. She'll wake up around 5 a.m. for a bottle and go right back to sleep until 7 a.m. or so. She has her breakfast (lovin' rice cereal!) around 8 a.m. then will nap again from 9 - 11 a.m. She is now eating veggies (we've just started sweet potatoes) and a bottle for lunch. Her afternoon nap lasts from 1 - 3 p.m. then she has a snack (bottle!). She will take a little catnap from around 5 - 6 p.m. and then eats her dinner (cereal, veggies, and a bottle). She LOVES her bath in the big bath tub, which she gets almost every night. If she can handle it, we will read some stories, have another bottle, then off to bed between 8 - 9 p.m. She does squirm a bit in the middle of the night, but will go back to sleep easily if we just giver her her paci and turn on her music or rain sounds. That's our days in a nutshell!
