So lately I've been really into exploring my creative side. Whether it's baking, sewing, or doing some sort of crafty project, I've really been trying my hand at "homemade."
Here, I made a fun treat for the 4th of July. Cupcakes in a jar, all homemade! Made-from-scratch lemon cupcakes (dyed with food coloring). In between each layer of cupcake is lemon filling and homemade frosting. I chose lemon because that is my brother Jacob's favorite, and it's his birthday on the 4th of July.

Lindy asked me to make some treats for his work for someone who was celebrating their last day in his office. First I made cupcake bites. I got the idea from this
website.

I also tried my hand at a Strawberry Shortcake, or my version of one, I should say. Here, I made french vanilla cake (yep, from a box....).

Here are my strawberries, "marinating", if you will, in some sugar.

Here's my cake with the strawberry/frosting layer in the middle, and the strawberry layer on the top.

And the finished product! My frosting didn't turn out just as I would have liked - it was a bit runny, but on the other hand I only had about 3/4 bag of powdered sugar. Oh well, it sure tasted good! It was very moist and light. I'll definitely make it again!
And here is my sewing station, aka the kitchen table. I've perfected my hooded towels, and have moved on to baby leg warmers and homemade burp cloths.
My next big project is decorations for Leah's birthday party. Hopefully I'll have some fun pictures to post then too!
